Purpose of the Job:  

The overall purpose of this position is to assure the residents are cared for mentally, spiritually and in health. The primary responsibilities of this position include ensuring the residents are safe and free from pain or abuse and treated with dignity and respect.

Supports and lives out Immanuel’s Mission and CHRIST Promises.

Responsibilities

Float Pool Staff Member is defined as employees who are assigned to different units and departments based on staffing needs (instead of being assigned to a single unit or department).  This does not apply to employees that pick up shifts occasionally in different units or locations.  A Float Pool Staff Member does not have an assigned home location or unit.

 

Key responsibilities of a Float Pool member

While you have more flexibility and control over your working hours as a member of the float pool compared to a staff position, you will be expected to work according to your FTE each pay period.  This includes working two weekend shifts per pay period (8 or 12 hour required).

The Float Pool staff members will be scheduled in a holiday rotation using the same process as the rest of the staff positions in the similar job title (CNA, MedAide40, Care Partner, LPN, or RN).

 

Self Scheduling in Smart Square: 

The expectation for Float Pool staff members is to self schedule within the allotted timeframe using iChoice in Smart Square.  When the schedule is available in Smart Square, you will select your shifts in accordance with your FTE.  You will have a 7 day window to select your shifts.  If your FTE is not met, open shifts will be selected for you.  This may include a non-preferred off shift, additional weekend shifts or holiday shifts.

 

Other requirements:

  • Must maintain an FTE status of 0.9 or above.
  • If a Float Pool staff member repeatedly fails to select shifts meeting his/her FTE within the 7 day time period, he/she may be subject to a Personal Improvement Plan (PIP) process and potentially lose his/her position in the Float Pool.
  • Float Pool staff members are expected to improve their skills and maintain their competencies.
  • Float Pool staff members will be subject to periodic performance evaluation surveys completed by Team Leads or Supervisory staff from shifts and locations in which the Float Pool staff member has worked.

Orientation:

  • Float Pool staff member will orient to all shifts in which he/she will be working.
  • Orientation checklist must be signed by the trainer and kept on-site in the Float Pool member’s personnel file.

Float Pool staff members are eligible for benefits under the same eligibility requirements of a staff position. Float Pool staff members will be eligible for a pay premium to compensate for their clinical and location flexibility.  In addition to the pay premium, Float Pool staff members will be eligible to receive shift differential pay for working nights, weekends and holidays under the same eligibility requirements as staff positions.

Key Responsibilities and Duties of the Job

Resident Care and Administrative Duties

  • Directs and participates in appropriate care. Records and reports any changes in patient conditions to the Team Lead RN.
  • Utilizes the nursing process in planning individualized resident care though an interdisciplinary team approach. Assures care provided complies with plan of care standards through observation and evaluation.
  • Appropriately delegates clinical procedures which do not require licensure to other team members as appropriate.
  • Assists in planning patient care through and IDT approach and conference. Assists with ongoing assessments & reevaluations.
  • Implements nursing interventions consistent with care of plan.
  • Administers medications and treatments (including intravenous infusions and medications) and evaluates response. Provides resident and family education.
  • Completes the admission, transfer and discharge process.
  • Demonstrates timely response to resident calls, anticipates resident needs, and assures resident safety and comfort.
  • Evaluates resident care effectiveness to assure care standards are consistently followed and modify if needed according to nursing policy.
  • Assess resident pain and establishes an acceptable pain level. Responds and intervenes to verbal and non-verbal pain.
  • Assist in the admission, discharge and transfer process.
  • Demonstrates the ability to perform in an accurate and precise manner in crisis and emergency situations.
  • Assumes responsibility with intravenous therapy and NG insertion following the outlined regulations in the state of license.

Compliance

  • Assumes responsibility for personal and professional growth through participation in meetings, training and continuing education. Fulfills annual education requirements per policy.
  • Maintains compliance with established policies, procedures and objectives concerning quality, safety, environmental and infection.
  •  Monitors systems for accuracy, conducts audits and provides summaries as directed.

Other

  • Performs other duties as assigned or requested.

Qualifications

Education-

  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the respective state in which he/she is employed is required.

Experience-

  • Minimum of one (1) year of progressive experience in and assisted living or skilled care community or related experience is required.
  • Equivalent years of education may substitute for experience requirement.

 Other Requirements-

  • Certification in Basic Life Support and First Aid is preferred or willingness to get certified within 60 days of hire date.
