Overview

Purpose of the Job:  

The overall purpose and primary responsibilities of this job are to perform activities that support the maintenance of each participant’s optimal level of independence in functional mobility, daily activities and community engagement. The Restorative Aide works under the direction of the Therapy department and will implement individual and group functional maintenance programs, developed by the Physical/Occupational Therapist, consisting of activities designed to maintain an individual’s functional level and/or slow or stop a decline in function. Supports and lives out Immanuel’s Mission and CHRIST Promises.

Program Implementation

  • Implement individualized functional maintenance programs focusing on maintaining a participant’s highest level of functional activity once the participant has met the goals of skilled physical or occupational therapy interventions. Functional maintenance programs will be developed and administered under the direction of the physical and occupational therapists based on the specific needs or functional deficits of a participant. Functional maintenance programs may consist of combination of the following: a)range of motion; b) NuStep/SciFit equipment utilization (maintaining aerobic capacity); resisted exercise (maintaining muscle strength); d) maintenance of balance strategies; e)ambulation; f)fine motor programming; and g)adaptive feeding programs.
  • Lead various group wellness and fitness classes

Compliance

  • Thoroughly document all participant care interactions in Mediture and participant’s health records.

Administrative

  • Inspect, monitor, stock and clean equipment and work areas
  • Attend Weekly Meetings
  • May escort participants with transportation team as needed

Other

  • Performs other duties as assigned or requested

 

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

Education-

  • High School Diploma or GED/equivalent is required.
  • Current License as a Certified Nursing Assistant as required in the respective state of employment.
  • Restorative Aide Certificate preferred.

Experience-

  • One (1) year of experience working with the frail or senior population preferred.
  • Prior personal care experience and/or rehab experience preferred.
  • Equivalent years of education may substitute for experience requirement.

Other Requirements-

  • Must have medical clearance for communicable diseases and up-to-date immunizations before having direct participant contact.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Skills i.e. Health Care Level Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR); Automated External Defibrillator (AED); First Aide (FA).
  • Strong interest and respect for working with frail or senior adults.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license, proof of insurance and have means of transportation.

KSA- Knowledge Skills and Abilities-

  • Basic knowledge of frail or senior adults to support functional maintenance programming required.
  • Values and believes that each participant has the right to be fully involved in his/her unique plan of care and to reach the optimal level of physical and psychosocial function as he or she deserves.
  • Values and respects the dynamics of different opinions, perspectives, and personalities.
  • Promotes participant independence by focusing first and foremost on the participant’s abilities during activities of daily living (ADL’s), including but not limited to bathing, dressing, grooming, self-feeding and mobility.
  • Skill in providing therapeutic touch and effective handling strategies during implementation of functional maintenance programs.
  • Maintain safety of participants during all restorative encounters.
  • Skill in basic computer operations and familiarity with Microsoft computer software including Outlook, Word and Excel programs.
  • Skill in careful listening, sensitivity to emotions attached to the message, and in providing thoughtful responses.
  • Skill in motivating participants to achieve self-identified goals.
  • Skill in organizing and effectively using time, resources and talents.
  • Ability to work effectively with culturally, economically and educationally diverse populations.
  • Ability to implement quality practices in personal behavior and job/department outcomes.
  • Ability to work using safe body mechanics and adhering to safety policy and procedures.
  • Ability to proactively address safety concerns and bring them to the attention of appropriate personnel.
  • Ability to exhibit high standard of ethics, accountability and responsibility.
  • Ability to identify and recommend solutions to resolve problems.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with participants, coworkers and the interdisciplinary team (IDT).  
  • Ability to maintain a positive, therapeutic attitude and working relationship with participants, co-workers, IDT and families.
  • Ability to receive and integrate constructive criticism and feedback.
  • Ability to display personal initiative to complete work with general supervision. 
  • Ability to chart via Electronic Health Records
  • Proven experience and basic computer proficiency (internet, email, Microsoft Office)
