  • Overview

    The overall purpose of this job is to provide ongoing maintenance to the community’s landscaping. The responsibilities of this job include caring for trees, shrubs, flowers, landscape amenities, turf, and bedding areas by controlling insects, disease, and weeds, and planting and removing trees and flowers. Supports and lives out Immanuel’s Mission and CHRIST Promises.

    Key Responsibilities and Duties of the Job

    Landscaping

    • Maintains clean grounds with specific emphasis on the spring and fall seasons.
    • Controls weeds by pulling them and applying chemicals.
    • Prunes trees and shrubs.
    • Performs simple maintenance, adjustments, and repairs to irrigation systems.
    • Assists with resident requests.

    Maintains Sidewalks and Outdoor Areas

    • Provides proper upkeep of front entry areas, sidewalks, driveways, and parking lots.
    • Gathers and removes litter.
    • Removes snow from walkways and structures.
    • Applies ice-melt to walkways.
    • In conjunction with community maintenance staff, aids in maintenance of storm water drains, inlets, outlets, and interceptors.

    Operates Equipment and Tools

    • Operates and maintains vehicles and powered equipment such as mowers, tractors, snow blowers, and pruning saws.
    • Uses appropriate hand tools (e.g., shovels, rakes, saws and hedge trimmers) and techniques to safely and efficiently complete maintenance tasks.

    Other

    • Reports to work as needed during inclement weather and may be added to the community’s regular Maintenance on-call rotation.
    • Assists with maintenance duties as directed.
    • Utilizes Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) as required by OSHA and Immanuel policies.
    • Performs other duties as assigned or requested.

     

    Qualifications

     

    Education-

    • Associate’s degree in common horticulture is preferred.
    • Equivalent years of experience may substitute for education requirement.

    Experience-

    • Two (2) years of landscaping and gardening experience is required.
    • Equivalent years of education may substitute for experience requirement.

    Other Requirements-

    • Pesticide applicator certification or ability to obtain within twelve (12) months of hire is required.
    • Nebraska Certified Arborist is preferred.

     

    KSA- Knowledge Skills and Abilities-

    • Knowledge of horticultural practices of all types.
    • Knowledge of basic mechanical principles.
    • Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe work environment.
    • Skills in pruning.
    • Skills in applying chemicals and pesticides.
    • Skills in using landscaping tools and equipment.
    • Ability to diagnose and control pest problems of all types (e.g., weeds, insects, and diseases).
    • Ability to design plant beds and maintain them.
    • Ability to provide excellent customer service.
    • Ability to work safely with chemicals.
    • Ability to control costs and improve work efficiencies.
    • Ability to proactively seek improvements to grounds.
    • Ability to be on-call during inclement weather.
    • Ability to track tasks and time in electronic systems.
