  • Overview

    The overall purpose of this job is to assist the Executive Chef in providing residents the best possible dining experience. The primary responsibilities of this job include creating recipes for and the baking of breads, pies, candies, chocolates, cookies, cakes, ice creams, custards and other baked goods. The incumbent will assist with managing inventory, menu planning and overseeing the kitchen in the absence of the Executive and Sous Chefs. Supports and lives out Immanuel’s Mission and CHRIST Promises.

    Key Responsibilities and Duties of the Job

    Preparation of Baked Goods

    • Prepares a variety of baked goods including breads, pies, candies, chocolates, cookies, cakes, ice creams and custards.
    • Creates, tests and evaluates new pastry and dessert recipes.
    • Assists the Executive Chef with menu planning.

    Inventory Management

    • Maintains inventory and supplies for baked goods.
    • Monitors inventory levels and orders ingredients within the assigned budget.

    Customer Service

    • Ensures residents are satisfied with the variety and quality of baked goods.
    • Utilizes resident feedback to develop new recipes or make changes to existing recipes.

    Kitchen Management

    • Oversees kitchen staff in the absence of the Executive or Sous Chefs.
    • Assists in maintaining a clean and organized kitchen.

    Other

    • Assists with special events as needed.
    • Performs other duties as assigned or requested.

    Qualifications

    Education-

    • Associate’s degree in Culinary Arts or trade/vocational school degree in Culinary Arts is required.
    • Advanced certification or degree in Culinary Arts is preferred.
    • Equivalent years of experience may substitute for education requirement.

    Experience-

    • Two (2) years of experience in the role of a Pastry Chef is required.
    • One (1) year of supervisory experience is preferred.
    • Equivalent years of education may substitute for experience requirement.

    Other Requirements –

    • Executive Pastry Chef Certification is preferred.
    • Serve Safe certification is preferred.
    • Food Handler certificate is preferred.

    KSA- Knowledge Skills and Abilities-

    • Knowledge of baking and pastry techniques.
    • Knowledge of both classic and modern baking skills.
    • Knowledge of pastry, dessert and cake decorating techniques.
    • Knowledge of the kitchen’s ordering process.
    • Knowledge of budget processes and principles.
    • Knowledge of food health and safety standards.
    • Skills in verbally communicating professionally and effectively.
    • Skills in safely handling food.
    • Skills in creating a variety of baked goods.
    • Skills in operating a computer.
    • Ability to create follow recipes.
    • Ability to relate to residents and staff.
    • Ability to solve problems.
