Immanuel is seeking a Recreation Therapist to work at The Lighthouse located at 17600 Arbor Street, Omaha, NE 68130.  The Lighthouse has 36 skilled nursing and long-term care suites.

 

This position is Monday-Friday 8am-4:30pm, with one day a week as a partial evening shift. Occasional weekends will be required, no holidays. 

 

Pay will be based upon experience, certifications, skills and education.

Job Duties & Skills Required

What You Will Do

The overall purpose of this job is to provide recreation therapy to residents.  You will be using evidence based practices to provide for the physical, mental, psych/social, and spiritual well-being of our residents. You will be a vital part of our interdisciplinary team, helping to create an environment of growth and enjoyment for our residents by providing them access to wellness activities, planning events, documenting their progress and enjoyment, and developing new and engaging programs.

Key Responsibilities and Duties of the Job

Resident Care

· Writes care plans, MDS, interviews, assessments and progress notes using the Point Click Care system.

· Coordinates care plan meetings with family of residents and other staff members.

· Plan, confirm, implement and escort residents to activities 2-4times a day including evenings and weekends.

Planning

· Plan, review, print and hang up activity calendars in resident rooms every 2 weeks.

· Plan and implement family cookouts and gatherings.

· Plan and implement outings, drive residents to off-site locations.

· Plan and implement special lunch/dinner groups for residents.

· Develop independent activities for residents such as word search puzzles, jigsaw puzzles, games and books.

· Plan monthly birthday events.

· Plan and discuss events and activities with Dietary and housekeeping.

Duties

· Provide pet therapy for residents.

· Provide 1:1/sensory visits to low functioning residents.

· Decorate bulletin boards each month.

· Hang up window decorations each holiday/season.

· Email activity calendars to family members every 2 weeks.

· Email family members to coordinate communication with residents.

· Assist in dining room.

· Maintain budget and purchase supplies for activities.

· Provide manicures to residents.

· Clean and feed bird aviaries 1-2 times per week.

· Write out daily calendar of events on 5 activity boards.

· Take residents outdoors, help water and weed flowers.

· Participate in resident mental health and wellness meetings.

· Work with volunteers to lead or assist activities.

 

 

Skills & Requirements

Certified Theraputic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) required

Bachelor’s degree in Recreation Therapy or related field.

Two (2) years’ experience as a Therapeutic Recreation Specialist.

Equivalent years of education may substitute for experience requirement.

Additional experience in therapeutic recreation within a skilled nursing facility.
